How to chose an army

Chosing an Army is always tough for me. My problem is that I am easily impressed by shiny models and shiny artwork ^^

So what I do and what I suggest new players should do is sit down with a yellow legal pad and make a good ol' pro and contra list.

To do this properly, you should head to http://battlecollege.wikispaces.com/ and check out the "Army List" for every faction and follow these steps(if you are a new player it helps to also have a veteran help you with this a bit):

1. Read through the "What is XY like?" and rate the general overview of that factions playstyle on a scale of 1 to 10.

2. Check out all the Warcasters for the faction. Don't do a big ol' study of them... just skim over it and decide wether you like him/her on the basis of what you read and the miniature preview. When you did this for all Warcasters write down the total number of Warcasters you liked. Also maybe not special things like: "Zerkova cool - needs conversion"

3. Repeat this for Light Warjacks, Heavy Warjacks, Units and Solos and keep writing down the individual numbers of models you like in each category.

4. Rate the overall flair and feel of the army based on the models, pictures and the rules you read on a scale of 1 to 10.

5- Repeat this for all factions or at least for all those that sort of interest you.

Afterwards check your notes and compare to find the highest score. Use some common sense of course, since some armies have a few less models in certain categories than others (f.e. Hordes, Retribution of Scyrah)

Mainly you should ALWAYS chose your army mainly on the basis of their overall general playstyle and their looks. There is not really anything "OP" in WarmaHordes, so better just play what you think looks cool, since you'll be painting and pushing those miniatures around a lot.

Once you chose an army ALWAYS and I mean absolutely always start with the Battlebox. Build them up, maybe paint them up and play a few games with them against other Battleboxes only! This way you will already learn a lot about your faction and you will ease yourself into it. It also means that if you find out you don't actually like the army all that much, you didn't throw 200$/€ out the window.

So much for the process of how I chose my army.

Introduction, Yadda Yadda

Hi!

Welcome to my Blog. Well it isn't so much a Blog as it is a Diary of sorts... Basically I will be chronicaling my progress on my new faction.

First things first:

My name is eLdritch and I have been playing TableTop games since I was 9 years old. As so many people I started with Warhammer and Warhammer 40k (back then it was 2nd edition 40k and 4th edition Fantasy Battles I believe.) and played both games for quite a while VERY actively... After 3rd Edition 40K came out I pretty much played 1 game a day. As with a lot of GW veterans I got bored of the game... VERY bored... GW kept watering it down and I kept getting grumpier at their ridiculous prices... I mean since I started, the prices for most things have doubled and in some cases tripled.

So I started dabbling in other Systems. Confrontation, Battle Tech, Flames of War, you name it until I was pretty much just playing GW side systems like Inquisitor, Necromunda, Blood Bowl and Mortheim. Then I stumbled onto Warmachine and pretty much instantly fell in love with it... that was 6 years ago now I believe and I have been playing it ever since with my trusty Cygnar :D

I recently came back from a rather long break because of a long series of hospital stays, and thought that it was time to start a new faction. I sold my Trollblood (which I just never could get myself to like due to the all medium base theme... that just doesn't sit with me =/) and pondered for a while which faction to pick up until I decided on the Retribution of Scyrah!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Now a few words on how I am going to do this Blog. My main goal, as I said above, will be to chronicle the growth of my Scyrah from the start. So most of my Blog posts and Videos will be centered on painting things up but I will also start off by going into great detail on what goes into chosing an Army, chosing a Color scheme, chosing a Theme, etc. I will also post Reviews every now and then.

So, that's pretty much it for the Introduction Post, on to the interesting stuff =)
